Pier 39, San Francisco

Our SF hotel was located just a block away from Fisherman's Wharf, and another block down to Pier 39. We both loved the area. Sure, it was slightly touristy, but it had great restaurants and bars, and good transport links to the rest of the city. On the day we landed, the first thing I wanted to do was go to the Pier and see the famous Californian Sea Lions. Over our whole week in the city, we went back to the sea lions 5 or 6 times, and visited the Pier almost every day. (The photos below were taken on our first night.)
The Pier had loads to offer; gift shops, wine tasting, acrobatics on the stage, clam chowder spots, ice cream stands and beer vendors. But most of all, incredible views of Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge.
As I said, we wasted lots of time watching the sea lions, admiring the views from the Pier and falling a little bit more in love with the city. As we visited so early in the season there weren't that many sea lions around (compared to now, at least!) but one cheeky boy did swim up close to us.
Every time we've had good weather since we've been home, I've day dreamed about cold beers on the waterfront whilst watching the sea lions as the Californian sun blazes above.
